The Klong Runs By It
It’s bit sad. So many old houses are turned into pub-and-restaurants: Sad fore the memory of Bangkok’s pasts, though
happy for the tummies of Bangkok’s bold and beautiful. Taking over from Bangkok Art Bar is Bann Phanfah Pub & Restaurant.
Freshly painted, with intricate woodcarvings at the corners, the felling of old Rattanakosin ear exudes from this century-plus,
two-story wooden house b Klong Rob Krung. Hacked into three zones are:
|
1. The outdoor backyard, right by the klong, which flows into Klong
Banglumpoo
Here, you get to sip on drinks at the spacious garden with a Bali-inspired
sculpture/fountain lining up on one side. Have a fondue for two persons (beef, pork,
chicken, shrimp, B280) while you’re at it.

2. The indoor has one room splashed in pink and the other splashed in ellow.
This air-conditioned area has framed
photographs of King Rama V hanging on the walls. From an elevated stage, the live band churns out English songs from the 60s
to 70s era (daily 7-11 pm).
3. Another outdoor garden is by Phra Sumen Road. It’s spacious are where
you get to watch the cars roll by while relishing
the authenticity of the house’s fa?ade. Left the foamy yellow liquid that is Heineken (B100) flow down your throat while
shooting the breeze next to the Bali-inspired sculpture spitting water. |

 |
Be entertained by the mobile (yes, mobile), duo acoustic guitarists (daily
7-11 pm) moving around the two gardens, playing a variety of music in both
English and Thai. Request a song if you wish, play a song yourself if you’re
drunk enough. 591 Phra Sumen Re., 02-281-6237. Open daily 11am-2pm.
5pm-midnight. |
